Hot Chocolate is my drink of choice when it comes to coffee shops, dessert, airplanes, etc. It’s soothing, warm, smells oh so good, and takes me back to my childhood.
It’s snowing outside today, and hot chocolate always sounds amazing on these days. It gave me the inspiration to create a new page for Make It Maddy, a journal of sorts for the different hot chocolate brands, preparations, and restaurant styles called Hot Chocolate Chronicles (HCC). This first post for HCC is one of my favorites, Hot Chocolate Affogato from Pitango.
Normally, affogato is a beverage you get at Italian restaurants/Gelatorias which consists of a shot or two of espresso topped with a scoop of gelato. This version is Pitango’s Hot Italian Sipping Chocolate topped with a scoop of gelato. The Sipping Chocolate is thick and chocolatey, almost like melted semi-sweet chocolate. It’s not very sweet, but the gelato more then makes up for it. You can choose whichever gelato you want to top the sipping chocolate with, but I usually go the simple/classic route and get Crema or Stracciatella. This particular time, I went for the Stracciatella (Vanilla Chocolate Chip). It was soo good, the cold gelato was melting into the warm sipping chocolate, and they even give you a cute little spoon to eat with. mmm I could go back for more. If you have a Pitango near you, you should hurry and go get some, they only offer the hot chocolate in the Fall/Winter!
